"Erev Rav" in the News

14 Elul 5773

Yes, that's the golden calf and it is a symbol of the Erev Rav since they were the ones responsible for it in the first place. What sin did the Israelites commit then? They stood by and watched and didn't say anything against it.  Of course, it's hard to blame them after they saw Hur being murdered Hur for doing just that.

When Moshe Rabbeinu returned to the camp and found out what had happened he gave the historic call:  "Mi l'Hashem elai!" -  whoever is for Hashem, come to me - and the tribe of Levi rallied behind him.

I've always felt aspecial  kinship to the tribe of Levi, so in that spirit, I offer this cyber-protestation of what the Erev Rav is currently doing to bring Am Yisrael under condemnation. They seem to work overtime at it:

Horowitz: I'll Open Tel Aviv on Shabbat

Member of Knesset Nitzan Horowitz (Meretz) criticized the municipality of Tel Aviv, Tuesday, for its decision, reported Monday, not to change a bylaw on Shabbat closures before the upcoming municipal elections.

Horowitz - "When I am mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo it will be a free city. I'll change the municipal bylaw to allow snack stands and grocery stores to operate on weekends, legally, without risking fines from city inspectors."

Chareidi Retaliatory Initiative Against Dati Leumi Tzibur

An initiative is underway by chareidim on the internet calling to boycott dati leumi merchants selling 4 minim and sukkas for the yomtov. Under the banner “זכור את אשר עשה לך הבית היהודי”  [another reference to Amalek] those behind the plan feel it is appropriate to strike back where it hurts, aware many dati leumi families earn a livelihood selling Sukkos items.

Some of the postings question “are you planning to give a livelihood to those affiliated with a party that hates you? Will you give a livelihood to one who wishes to compel you to serve in the IDF? Will you give parnasa to one trying to starve you and your children?”

The notice seems to be going viral from one community list to another, obviously an effort to strike out against the dati leumi tzibur for the actions of the Bayit Yehudi party.

Yesh Atid MK: Must Give Arabs East Jerusalem for Peace

Last night (Monday) in Tel Aviv, at a conference organized by “Peace Now”, Yesh Atid MK Ofer Shelah stated that he thought the ultimate issue that will have to be dealt with in the last stages of the peace negotiations would be the status of East Jerusalem.

"I can't imagine a settlement by which Palestinians do not call East Jerusalem the capital of a Palestinian state", Shelah stated.
